Ranchi, Nov 12: The Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) has launched an investigation into the admission certificates of 10 MBBS students from four state-run medical colleges after irregularities were detected in their documents.

According to a letter issued by JCECEB Examination Controller Megha Bhardwaj, the suspected candidates include five from Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH), Hazaribagh, three from Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital (PJMCH), Dumka, and one each from Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, and Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad.

Sources said that SNMMCH Dhanbad has already cancelled the admission of its suspected candidate and has recommended legal action against her.

The JCECEB, in its communication sent to the colleges on Tuesday evening, has directed them to submit verified copies of the caste and residential certificates of the listed students.

The examination board has also sought confirmation from the respective college administrations regarding whether these students have been formally enrolled and the status of ongoing investigations into their credentials.

An admission in-charge of one of the medical colleges said, “The JCECEB had asked for the verification report within two hours on Monday evening, and we submitted it within the given time frame.”

Officials said this is the first time in 25 years that such a large number of suspected fake reserved-category candidates have come under scrutiny in Jharkhand’s medical admission process.
