New Delhi, April 4: 14 leaders took the oath of office as Rajya Sabha members on Thursday including former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
In the new Parliament house building, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar administered them the oath.
While Vaishnaw took the oath as a member of the Upper House representing Odisha, Sonia Gandhi was sworn in as a Rajya Sabha member representing Rajasthan.
Notable leaders who took oath
Among the 14 individuals who took the oath as members of the Rajya Sabha were Congress leader Ajay Maken representing Karnataka, BJP leader R P N Singh representing Uttar Pradesh, and BJP leader Samik Bhattacharya representing West Bengal.

Leaders of the YSRCP Gola Babu Rao, Yerum Venkat Subba Reddy and Medha Raghunath Reddy were also sworn in as representatives of the state of Andhra Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha.
Sonia Gandhi’s first time as RS member
Sonia Gandhi, serving as a Rajya Sabha member for the first time, took her oath in the presence of Piyush Goyal, the Leader of the House, along with Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress president and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
During the oath-taking ceremony, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh and Secretary General P C Mody were also present.
