31-member Joint Parliamentary Committee constituted to examine Waqf Amendment Bill

New Delhi, August 9: A Joint Parliamentary Committee comprising 31 members—21 from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha—has been formed to review the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju proposed the names of 21 Lok Sabha MPs and 10 Rajya Sabha MPs in Parliament for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to review the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which was approved by a voice vote.

Asaduddin Owaisi included in JPC

The 21 members from the Lok Sabha included in the JPC consist of eight MPs from the Bharatiya Janata Party and three from the Congress.

The committee has been asked to submit its report by the last day of the first week of the Winter Session.

Notably, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and Congress MP Imran Masood are also part of the committee.

The 21 Lok Sabha MPs who will serve as members of the JPC include Jagdambika Pal, Nishikant Dubey, Tejasvi Surya, Aparajita Sarangi, Sanjay Jaiswal, Dilip Saikia, Abhijit Gangopadhyay, DK Aruna, Gaurav Gogoi, Imran Masood, Mohammad Jawed, Maulana Mohibullah Nadvi, Kalyan Banerjee, A Raja, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Dileshwar Kamait, Arvind Sawant, Suresh Gopinath, Naresh Ganpat Mhaske, Arun Bharti, and Asaduddin Owaisi.

Who are 10 Rajya Sabha MPs in JPC?

The 10 Rajya Sabha MPs who will be part of the JPC include Brij Lal, Dr. Medha Vishram Kulkarni, Gulam Ali, Dr. Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, Syed Naseer Hussain, Mohammed Nadeem Ul Haq, V. Vijayasai Reddy, M. Mohamed Abdulla, Sanjay Singh, and Dr. Dharmasthala Veerendra Heggade.
