8 band party members killed in Ramgarh road accident after coal truck hits passenger vehicle

Ramgarh, June 26: Eight members of a band-tasha party were killed after a coal-laden truck collided with a passenger vehicle near Lari-Barlong under the Rajrappa police station area of Ramgarh district late on Thursday night.

Seven victims died on the way to Ramgarh Sadar Hospital, while the eighth, who had sustained critical injuries, was referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. He later succumbed to his injuries during treatment, a relative of the deceased confirmed.

Three from Same Family, Two Brothers Among Victims

The deceased have been identified as Anod Kumar, David Karmali, Pappu Karmali, Pawan Karmali, Ashok Kumar, Shakti Kumar, Hemant Kumar Mahato and Manish Kumar.

According to sources, three of the victims belonged to the same family, while two were brothers.

Truck Hit Vehicle While Overtaking

The accident occurred on the Ramgarh-Bokaro main road (NH-23) near Budh Bazaar in the Lari-Barlong area.

According to preliminary information, two residents of Balsagra had travelled in a passenger vehicle to Margmarcha village, where members of a band-tasha party had gathered for a programme. They were returning to Balsagra along with six other members of the troupe when the accident took place.

Police said a coal-laden truck, reportedly travelling at high speed from the Ramgarh side, hit the passenger vehicle while attempting to overtake it. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely mangled.

Police, Villagers Launch Rescue Operation

After receiving information about the accident, local villagers, personnel from Rajrappa police station and police from nearby stations rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

All the injured were taken to Ramgarh Sadar Hospital. Doctors declared seven of them dead on arrival, while one critically injured victim was referred to RIMS Ranchi, where he later died.

According to local sources, six of the deceased were residents of Margmarcha village, while two belonged to Balsagra. Police are continuing with further investigation into the accident.
