Krishnanagar, March 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated development projects valued at Rs 15,000 crore in West Bengal.

During an official event in Krishnanagar, Nadia district, the prime minister launched the projects.

“Today, we are taking yet another step towards a developed West Bengal. Yesterday, I laid the foundation of and inaugurated projects worth Rs 7,000 crore. The initiatives included development projects related to railways, ports and petroleum, among others. Today, again, I am laying the foundation of and inaugurating projects worth Rs 15,000 crore,” PM Modi stated.

“These projects will provide momentum to West Bengal’s economic growth and create job opportunities,” he further stated.

PM Modi remarked that West Bengal serves as India’s eastern gate.

“This gate has the potential to become the entry point of development in the east,” the PM stated.

“Our govt is developing infrastructure for connectivity via roadways, railways, waterways, and airways in the region,” he added.

Energy, infrastructure, railway projects

The Prime Minister inaugurated the construction of the Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station Phase II (2×660 MW) of the Damodar Valley Corporation, situated in Purulia district.

He unveiled the flue gas desulfurisation (FGD) system at Mejia Thermal Power Station, which was constructed at a cost of Rs 650 crore.

“Electricity is an important factor that drives the development of every sector of the economy. We are trying to make West Bengal self-reliant for its present and future energy needs,” PM Modi stated.

“The foundation of the second phase of Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station is a step in that direction. This initiative will bring investments worth over Rs 11,000 crore in the state,” the PM added.

Modi additionally inaugurated the four-lane expansion of the 100-kilometer Farakka-Raiganj segment of NH-12, constructed at a cost of Rs 1,986 crore.

Prime Minister Modi dedicated four railway projects to the nation in West Bengal, with a combined worth exceeding Rs 940 crore.

An official statement outlined that the projects include the expansion of the Damodar-Mohishila line, the introduction of a third line connecting Rampurhat and Murarai, the doubling of the Bazarsau-Azimganj railway line, and the establishment of a new railway link connecting Azimganj and Murshidabad.
