New Delhi, March 2: Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian cricketer and Member of Parliament for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stated on Saturday that he has requested that JP Nadda, the head of the BJP, release him from his political responsibilities so that he can concentrate on his upcoming cricket commitments.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gambhir also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and for enabling him to serve people.

“I have requested Hon’ble Party President @JPNadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM @narendramodi ji and Hon’ble HM @AmitShah ji for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind!,” Gambhir posted on X.

Gambhir has served as the BJP’s Lok Sabha MP for East Delhi since 2019.

Notably, Gambhir’s schedule in the upcoming months will be busy because of his duties in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he is mentoring the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a team he captained to two IPL titles.

Gambhir played a significant role in the Indian teams that won the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. Across 242 matches for India which include 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20Is he amassed 10,324 runs at an average of 38.95, including 20 centuries and 63 half-centuries.
