Dhanbad, March 14: Foto Mela, the annual exhibition of the IIT ISM Photographic Society, kicked off today at the Open Air Theatre (OAT) of the IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM).
Prof JK Pattanayak, Director, IIT ISM, inaugurated the Mela, in which 273 photographs of renowned photographers from across the country are displaying their art and creativity based on themes of nature, landscape, monochrome, sunset, shadow, portrait, and urban life.
Deputy Director Prof Dheeraj Kumar was also present on the occasion.
Mayank Tiwari was special guest
Mayank Tiwari, an engineer turned renowned photographer, was a special guest of the Mela. He highly appreciated the exhibition organised by FotoFreaks and said that the photographs displayed during the exhibition speak volumes about the hard work of the event’s organisers.

FotoFreaks completes 10 years
This year, the club has completed 10 years of its foundation, and the theme for the function has been aptly chosen as ‘Tales of Yester Years’.
Harshit Solanki, a B Tech mechanical engineering final-year student and the coordinator of FotoFreaks, said that this year’s exhibition focused on nostalgia. Many of the photographs were also based on cartoons that we used to witness in our childhood.

This year, the photographs were also received from some prominent institution alumni, including club founders Tushar Khandelwal and Vivek Krishna Agarwal of the 2014 graduating batch.
The coordinator of FotoFreaks, Stavan Brahmbhatt, a B Tech pre-final year (engineering physics) student of the institute, said that this year was the 6th edition of Foto Mela. The Society started organising the exhibition in 2016 but could not be held due to Covid.
One of the founders, Ashish Khandelwal, is a digital artist and fine art photographer based in Bengaluru. Shivam is a pre-final year student and the co-coordinator of FotoFreaks.
