ED seizes Rs 35 lakhs, fake stamps, illegal mining papers from Jharkhand Congress MLA, kin

Ranchi, March 14: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has recovered Rs 35 lakh unexplained cash, fake stamps and several incriminating papers during raids on 20 locations linked to Congress MLA Amba Prasad.

The recoveries were related to the Congress MLA and her family members’ alleged involvement in criminal activities such as extortion, collection of levies, illegal sand mining, land grabbing, etc.

The ED issued a press release today after conducting raids on 20 locations in Ranchi and Hazaribag. The release said that in addition to Rs 35 lakh cash, digital devices, fake stamps of Circle Offices, Banks, etc., and various incriminating documents in the form of handwritten receipts/diaries have been recovered and seized.

Illegal sand mining 

“Evidence related to illegal sand mining in Jharkhand has also been seized during the search,” it added.

The ED said the proceeds of crime generated from such criminal activities had been identified as being acquired in cash and utilised for further business activities and the purchase of several immovable properties.

The ED conducted search operations on March 12 at 20 locations in Ranchi and Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, related to Yogendra Sao, Amba Prasad, MLA and their other family members and associates under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 in connection with a case related to criminal activities such as extortion, collection of levies, illegal sand mining, land grabbing, etc.

The ED initiated the investigation based on more than 15 FIRs registered by Jharkhand Police under various sections of IPC, 1860, Arms Act, 1959 against Yogendra Sao, his family members and his associates. It is alleged in the FIRs that Amba Prasad, her father Yogendra Sao, and their associates are involved in various kinds of criminal activities such as extortion, collection of levy, illegal sand mining, land grabbing, etc., as a result of which they have acquired proceeds of crime.
