New Delhi, March 22: Hours after the Supreme Court consented to hear the case, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday withdrew the plea against his arrest by the ED in the money laundering case related to the excise policy.

Before a bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna, senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, speaking on behalf of Kejriwal, brought up the issue. Singhvi requested permission to withdraw the plea, citing a clash between the remand proceedings scheduled in the trial court later that day and the ongoing hearing in the Supreme Court.

Singhvi stated that Kejriwal intends to challenge the remand proceedings in the trial court and subsequently return to the Supreme Court with a new petition.

The action was taken just hours after Singhvi was informed by Justice Khanna that a three-judge bench would hear Kejriwal’s appeal against his arrest during the day.

Following his arrest by the ED on Thursday night, Kejriwal filed a petition with the Supreme Court.

After the Delhi High Court rejected the request to shield Kejriwal from coercive actions by the agency, he was arrested within hours.
