Dhanbad, March 30: Dhanbad police rescued 70 cows being smuggled in a large container to Bengal from Bihar on inter-state GT Road at Satkira check post under Hariharpur police station around 58 km away from district headquarters on Saturday early morning.
Cows were being smuggled to Ilam Bazar Panagarh ( West Bengal) from Khormabad of Sasaram district of Bihar.
Three arrested
Hariharpur police station officer in charge Girdhar Gopal said that three persons were identified as Md Sharif (driver), resident of Dumaria village of Banka district Bihar, Md Nasim (support staff), resident of Muradabad, Sasaram district, and smuggler Ezaz Kureshi, resident of Khurmabad, Sasaram district.

“The arrested persons admitted that cows were being taken to West Bengal from Bihar. The arrested persons later in the day were sent in judicial custody,” said Girdhar Gopal.
Routine check-up of vehicles
The police officer said that during a routine check-up of vehicles on inter-state GT Road (NH-2) in the early morning, a large container was found packed with cattle. The container was brought to the Hariharpur police station. Since cows were packed in abnormal ways in the container, the condition of most of them was bad.
A veterinary doctor was called to attend to wounded cows, and later, they were set free.
