Daltonganj, April 5: Luggage travels down 128 km in general coach of the express train without its owner cum passenger!

This bizarre episode happened on Thursday in the 12873 Up Jharkhand Swarnjayanti express train from Ranchi to Anand Vihar.

Phone fell and train left

A young passenger, Satender Kr Yadav of Rehla police station limits in Palamu, had boarded this train at Ranchi for Garhwa road junction on Thursday.

Yadav was standing at the door of the general coach when all of a sudden, at Khalari railway station, his cell phone fell on the platform there.

He got down from the coach and picked up his fallen cell phone. He got so disturbed that he didn’t guess when his train left for its onward journey.

Yadav’s luggage was in the general coach. His luggage consisted of 2 bags and some odd things.

Station superintendent of Khalari and Daltonganj to the rescue

Yadav rushed to the station superintendent of Khalari railway station, who phoned Daltonganj railway station superintendent Umesh Kumar, apprising him of the entire episode with the request to ‘take possession of Yadav’s luggage at the Daltonganj railway station if his luggage remains safe all through these 128 km that is the railway distance between Khalari and Daltonganj railway stations.’

Umesh Kumar said, “It was like hope against hope—luggage in the general coach without its owner. Anything unpleasant can happen to such luggage or baggage. You never know the attitude of the co-passengers.”

In the meantime, Yadav had alerted his relatives in Daltonganj to reach Daltonganj railway station to take possession of his luggage there.

Luggage safe and handed over

Umesh Kumar said, “The express train arrived some late. Yadav’s luggage was there. It was brought down at the Daltonganj railway station and duly handed over to Yadav’s relatives for whom he had requested.”

The luggage had mundane things, but for medicines for the heart worth 6,000 rupees, Yadav had prayed not to get lost in the train journey between Khalari and Daltonganj railway stations.

The Daltonganj railway station superintendent, Umesh Kumar, and his team have earned public appreciation for such help in a distressing situation.
