Dhanbad, April 6: The selection of an educationist as a co-opted member in the Governing Body (GB) of Baghmara College Baghmara, an affiliated unit of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad has snowballed into a controversy.
As per the college principal, Dr Ranjan Sinha, the GB unanimously selected Dr SKL Das, former university dean, at the meeting on February 24 as a co-opted educationist member.
But the University Representative (UR) in the GB Dr Sarita Srivastava ( principal of Gomia Degree College), on Friday (April 5 ) refused to endorse the name of Dr SKL Das as a co-opted member, saying that Dhanbad SDM (Uday Rajak, one of the members of the GB) had rejected all three names of educationists suggested on agenda of the meeting for co-opted GB member.
Sources said on the agenda of the meeting that three names, Dr Shiv Prasad, Dr SKL Das and Dr Rajesh Kumar ( university department of philosophy), were suggested for selecting a co-opted member in the GB.
At the meeting name of the former dean, Dr SKL Das, was unanimously selected as an educationist co-opted member of GB.
The matter became controversial on Friday when Dr Sarita Srivastava University Representative of GB, refused to sign on the name of Dr Das.

The selection of Dr Das was made at the meeting on February 23. Dr Srivastava was appointed UR on March 24, but the college’s principal did not inform her about the selection of Dr Das as a co-opted educationist member in GB.
“College principal Dr Ranjan Sinha had come in the late afternoon yesterday and asked me to issue a letter to Dr SKL Das as selection of educationist co-opted member in GB. I duly rejected the name as SDM had underlined (she means crossed) all three names including Dr Das suggested for selection in agenda”, said Dr Srivastava.
However, Dr Srivastava said that on the agenda, it was written that Dr Das had been unanimously selected as a co-opted educationist member in GB. As per the Statute, GB will have seven members. On the agenda, four members have signatures. Baghmara MLA Dhulu Mahto is the president of GB, but he did not attend.
“When the Sub Divisional Magistrate ( one of the members) had crossed all three names, how would I accept someone’s name? I asked the principal to hold a meeting of GB again, keeping the Model Code of Conduct in mind and suggesting fresh names of educationists to select one co-opted member”, said Dr Sarita Srivastava.
