Jamshedpur, April 13: Jamshedpur is gearing up for an evening of laughter and philanthropy as Young Indians (YI) prepares to host the much-anticipated event, ‘Comedy for a Cause – Shame on Me,’ featuring stand-up comedian Sapan Verma.

Set to take place on the 20th of April 2024 at the Fasy Auditorium, Loyola School, this event promises not only entertainment but also support for a noble cause.

Who is Sapan Verma?

Sapan Verma, a titan in the Indian comedy scene, is renowned for his wit and humour. As a stand-up comedian, writer, and co-founder of East India Comedy, his contributions to the genre are unmatched.

Verma’s impressive resume includes hosting, creating and executive producing the Amazon Prime Original show, One Mic Stand, where he mentored celebrities like Karan Johar, Shashi Tharoor and Sunny Leone in their stand-up debuts. The show’s success extended internationally, becoming the first Indian series to be adapted in Germany.

Moreover, Verma’s presence in global comedy circuits is notable, having represented India at prestigious festivals such as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

With over 2000 live shows across India and international tours spanning the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and Dubai, Verma has captivated audiences worldwide.

Notably, he performed as one of the opening acts for Coldplay and Jay-Z at the Global Citizen Festival India in 2015, entertaining a crowd of 80,000.

Adding to his accolades, Verma recently ventured into Bollywood as a comedy consultant and dialogue writer for Netflix releases, further solidifying his influence in the entertainment industry.

His comedy special, Obsessive Comedic Disorder, available on Amazon Prime Video, showcases his comedic prowess.

Proceeds of event to support YI Projet Masoom

However, ‘Comedy for a Cause’ transcends mere entertainment; it serves a higher purpose. Proceeds from the event will support YI Project Masoom, an initiative dedicated to protecting children from sexual abuse.

With a focus on awareness, prevention, and support, Project MASOOM has impacted over 100,000 children, parents and volunteers in Jamshedpur alone.

Recognizing the alarming statistics of child sexual abuse in India, YI’s commitment to creating a safer environment for children is commendable.
