New Delhi, April 13: Nine boxers, including Amit Panghal (51 kg), the 2022 Commonwealth Games champion, and Nishant Dev (71 kg), the bronze medallist from the World Championships, have been chosen by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) to represent India in the second World Qualification Tournament of the Paris Olympic Games 2024. The tournament is set to take place in Bangkok, Thailand from May 23 to June 3.

The current national champion, Panghal, is in excellent form after winning the gold medal in the Strandja Memorial tournament.

Nishant advanced to the final round of the first Olympic qualifier, which took place in Italy in March, and was just one victory away from guaranteeing his place in the Olympics.

Joining them will be Sachin (57kg), who clinched gold at the Strandja tournament and is also a national champion, as well as Narender Berwal (+92kg), who won bronze at the 2022 Asian Games, and Sanjeet Kumar (92kg), who also is a national champion.

The squad also includes former youth world champions Ankushita Boro (60kg) and Arundhati Choudhary (66kg), the reigning national champion, who aim to secure two additional quotas in the women’s category.

With their strong performances at the Asian Games, Nikhat Zareen (50 kg), Preeti (54 kg), Parveen Hooda (57 kg), and Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg) confirmed their spots, aiding India to earn four quotas for Paris Olympics 2024.
