Daltonganj, April 15: In the wake of the Lok Sabha election in Palamu, 23 people have been served notices to furnish sureties for good conduct and behaviour on the day of polling i.e. May 13.
The notices are under section 110 of the CrPC.
Habitual offenders
The executive magistrate has been briefed by the local police about the expediency of serving notice to habitual offenders with a history of breaching public tranquillity and peace, harbouring and protecting bad elements, etc. If there is apprehension that such a habitual offender will again commit an offence, section 110 of the CrPC is invoked to control and tame such habitual offenders.

Thus, a habitual offender is made to give surety for good behaviour, and in the event of non-adherence, magistrates and police are free to take action against the habitual offender.
Sureties for good behaviour
The officer in-charge of the town police station, Deobrata Poddar, said, “By the seal and signature of the executive magistrate, notices under section 110 of the CrPC have been served to 23 habitual offenders asking them to furnish sureties for good behaviour.”
