Jamshedpur, May 9: Anurag Foundation, established in 2002, an NGO dedicated to the work of taking care of children suffering from Thalassemia in and around Jamshedpur, observed World Thalassemia Day on 8th May at the Centre for Excellence.
Ujjal Chakraborty, Managing Director, JCAPCPL graced the occasion as Chief Guest and P K Ghose, Managing Director, JAMIPOL graced the same as Guest of Honour.
Present on the occasion were children of the Anurag Family, their respective parents, patrons of the Foundation, Dr N K Das, Dr Mandar Shah, Sumita Nupur, president of Anurag Foundation Vijaylaxmi Das , members of the foundation along with hope bearers and well-wishers.
President Vijaylaxmi Das formally welcomed everyone and patron Sumita Nupur gave a brief of the activities of Anurag Foundation in the last year.
Thalassemia fighters share stories of support
Nitu Kumari, child suffering from thalassemia spoke about how she has been battling with this condition, how she is dealing with this, how she is receiving care from Anurag Foundation, what support systems she has now and how she is living her life.

Anjali Mahato, mother of Devanshu, child suffering from thalassemia spoke on her experience on the struggles of taking care of children suffering from this condition, their association with the Foundation and the challenges she has to face every day.
Anurag Foundation’s founder honoured
Vasudha Deshmukh, Founder and Chief Trustee of Anurag Foundation was honored for her outstanding contribution to Humanity, Jamshedpur City, the society, and to Anurag Foundation by conferring upon her the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Speaking at the occasion Managing Director JCAPCPL and Managing Director JAMIPOL appreciated the efforts of Anurag Foundation. They also acknowledged the challenges that are being faced by these children and their parents and both organisations will keep supporting Anurag Foundation in its future endeavours.
Support from Jamshedpur Blood Centre
Currently, the foundation is taking care of about more than 85 children registered with them who are suffering from Thalassemia by arranging for free blood transfusion in which Jamshedpur Blood Centre always comes forward to help and steps up with transfusion-related medicines and medical care for them under the guidance of doctors at Holy Care Hospital.
They also arrange for Splenectomy operations when necessary and Chelating agents for children with high Ferritin levels to keep their iron levels balanced.
The foundation organises periodic Health Check-up Camps for the children and Jamshedpur Blood Centre very graciously always provides with a venue for the health check-up camps. Dr Chakraborty, a haematologist from Kolkata who is associated with the foundation helps in these camps.
