Ranchi, Nov. 8: Eastern India’s largest open-air butterfly park (Open Butterfly Garden) in Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park was inaugurated by L Khyangte, Additional Chief Secretary, Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department on November 7.

On the occasion, L Khyangte also released a book related to the butterfly park. After this, he took online the entry ticket for the butterfly park newly constructed for Rs 2 crore on 20 acres, entered the park, and observed the host and nectar plants of various species of butterflies.

Khyangte, in his address to the school children, said that the country’s largest butterfly park has been opened in a biological park. “One should take full advantage of this. Now they all can say with pride that there is a fish house and a butterfly park near their house.

This park has been developed right in front of the ‘Aquarium’ in the Birsa Zoo complex, on the outskirts of Ranchi city. There will be a beautiful world of colorful butterflies of more than 88 species here.

Host and nectar plants have been planted for their food, while a conservatory of about 800 square feet has been built. May nurseries have also been developed for breeding butterflies, where butterflies are laying larvae and eggs.

Many types of facilities including selfie point have been provided here for the tourists.

The zoo authority will try to keep most of the species found in Jharkhand like twin coaster, sergeant, bush brown, baronet, plain tiger, lemon pansy, common sailor and others in the park.

The then Chief Minister Raghubar Das laid the foundation stone of the garden on June 29, 2017. However, work on this project started in the year 2020. The maintenance of the butterfly garden will cost Rs 25 lakh annually.
