Jamshedpur, May 20: Heat wave conditions will prevail in isolated places across Jharkhand today.
IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre today issued an alert of heat wave conditions in Palamu, Garhwa, Deoghar, Jamtara, Dumka, Godda, Pakur and Sahibganj districts of the Santhal Pargana region.
At the same time, thunderstorms and lightning are also expected at isolated places over eastern, southern and adjoining central parts of the state today.
Heat wave conditions are also likely to prevail at isolated places of Garwha, Palamu, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih, Deoghar, Jamtara, Dumka, Godda, Pakur and Sahibganj tomorrow, May 21.
Meanwhile, the strength of westerly winds in the lower tropospheric levels (upto 3 km) has increased and is about 20 knots today.

The southwesterly winds prevail up to the height of 4.5 km above mean sea level over the region.
With an increase in cloudiness, the Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR) over the area is <200 watts/meter2.
There has been widespread rainfall over the Nicobar Islands during the past 24 hours.
Considering all the conditions, Southwest Monsoon has advanced into some parts of Maldives and Comorin area and some parts of the South Bay of Bengal, Nicobar Islands and South Andaman Sea.
Satellite pictures also indicated a cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and its neighbourhood at 3.1 km above the mean sea level.
