Hazaribag, May 20: With Hazaribag witnessing a direct contest between BJP candidate Manish Jaiswal and Congress’s J.P Patel, voting was slow in the morning hours in booths from town to villages. Later in the day, long queues were spotted at many of the booths with voters cast their votes.
Yashwant Sinha leads Congress bandwagon
Former External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha who is known for leading the opposition camp to make the Congress candidate win on this strong bastion of the BJP, also cast his vote in Hupad. “I cast my vote for strengthening of democracy, the progress of the country, for welfare and prosperity of people,” he said.
Sinha said he saw people in queues waiting for their turn to vote. “I hope what I am having in my mind is people of this constituency are also feeling,” he said and urged all to vote.
Jaiswal also reached a booth in town with his family members to cast a vote. He also urged all to vote. “For the betterment of the country, 100% of voters should vote without getting influenced by caste and religion,” he added.
Patel also cast his vote in Vishnugarh where he belonged to.
Old-age voters get vehicles to come to booth
In many booths, old age people were provided vehicles to come to the booth. Ratan Ram Ravidas came with his wife to vote in Amrit Nagar’s booth. “I have a great experience this time as the facility made available for senior citizens is appreciable,” he added.
He said he is a retired employee of the malaria department and never forgot to cast his vote in any election.
First-time voters elated
First-time voter Vaibhav, who passed his CBSE 12th exam with results out last week, said he is happy to cast his vote. “I had pressed the button of EVM with full responsibility in one of the booths at Keshav Hall,” he added.
Shaika Shahi, another first-time voter said she had pressed the button for a better tomorrow. Old-aged voter Shiv Kumar said the election comes every five years and so it’s the responsibility of all to vote.
