Jharkhand Weather: Cyclone Remal brewing over Bay of Bengal, landfall on May 26

Jamshedpur, May 24:  A severe cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ is brewing over the Bay of Bengal, posing a significant threat to the coastal regions of West Bengal and Bangladesh.

The cyclone will have little impact on Jharkhand, said weathermen today.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings, anticipating the cyclone to escalate into a severe storm by May 25 and make landfall on May 26.

The cyclone would mostly impact coastal areas of Bengal and Odisha.

Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty wind (max wind speed: 30-40 kmph) are likely at isolated places over north-eastern, southern and adjoining central parts of the state today.

According to the forecast, the day’s reading is expected to witness a fall after the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, a trough from above cyclonic circulation over southeast Rajasthan to Jharkhand across central parts of Madhya Pradesh at 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

Conditions are favourable for the advance of the Southwest Monsoon over some more parts of the south Bay of Bengal, the remaining parts of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andaman Sea and some parts of the east-central Bay of Bengal during the next two days.

Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty wind was experienced at a few places over the state during the past 48 hours while heavy rainfall was also witnessed at isolated places over south-eastern parts of the state.

The highest rainfall of 76.4 mm was recorded at Gurabanda in East Singhbhum in the past 48 hours.
