NDA bags 9 out of 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand

Ranchi, June 4: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) bagged nine out of 14 parliamentary seats in Jharkhand in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It is down three compared to the 2019 parliamentary elections.

In a keenly contested election, the BJP won eight, its ally AJSU party 1 while the JMM bagged three and the Congress two seats.

The NDA bagged 12 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha election while the JMM and the BJP won one seat each.

Major losers included Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda who lost to Kalicharan Munda of the Congress with a margin of 1,49,675 votes.

Annapurna wins with highest margin in Jharkhand

Union HRD Minister for State Annapurna Devi retained the Koderma seat by defeating Vinod Singh (CPI-ML) with the highest margin in Jharkhand i.e. 3,76,240. BJP’s Kalicharan Singh retained the Chatra seat with a margin of 2,20,959 votes.

JMM wrests Singhbhum after 33 years

Geeta Koda, who defected to the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, lost to JMM’s Joba Manjhi by a margin of 1,66,402. The JMM wrested the seat from Geeta Koda, who won the last election on the Congress ticket, after a gap of 33 years. JMM’s Krishna Mardi had won the parliamentary elections on the JMM ticket in 1991.

BJP wins three urban seats

The BJP has won all three seats- Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad with sizeable urban pockets. Sanjay Seth has retained the Ranchi seat defeating Yasashwani Sahay of the Congress by a margin of 1,20,512 while Bidyut Baran Mahto retained the Jamshedpur constituency by a margin of 2,59,782. Dhulu Mahto won in Dhanbad by a margin of 3,13,501 defeating Anupama Singh of the Congress.

Nishikant Dubey also retained the Godda seat with a margin of 1,01,813 votes despite a tough fight given by Pradeep Yadav of the Congress. VD Ram retained the Palamu seat with a high margin of 2,88,807 while AJSU party’s Chandra Prakash Chaudhary won the Giridih seat by 80,880.

Dissident JMM MLAs fail to impact the result

JMM’s Vijay Hansdak retained the Rajmahal constituency defeating BJP’s Tala Marandi with 1,78,264 votes negating the impact of JMM dissident MLA Lobin Hembrom, who could get 42,140 votes.
Sukhdev Bhagat of the Congress wrested the Lohardaga seat from the BJP defeating Sameer Oraon by a margin of 1,35,367 votes. Dissident JMM MLA Chamra Linda could not make any impact on the electoral outcome as he polled only a little over 45,000 votes.
