The body which had decomposed was found in the Chandrapahadi jungle about 15 km away from the heart of the city.

A local resident who had taken his cattle to graze in the jungle had discovered the body and had informed the fellow villagers, thus the sensational information finally trickled down to the Sundernagar police station.

Police find girl’s T-shirt and jeans

While a beeline of the inquisitive villagers, especially of women, was formed to get a glimpse of the body, the police team was searching for some clue to the identification of the victim by looking into the jungle meticulously. It was during this exercise that the police found a T-shirt and a jeans pant lying about 200 yards away from where the body had been found.

As the T-shirt and the jeans pant size apparently matched that of the girl, police suspect that the assailants might have dropped the body in the Chandrapahadi jungle stripping the cloths after committing the rape and murder somewhere else. The police suspect that the criminals might have resorted to following the tactics for hushing up the victim’s identity.

Body still unidentified

The body could not be identified despite hundreds of locals seeing it. The police ultimately shifted the body to MGM Medical College mortuary.

OC, Sundernagar thana, Shankar Prasad Kushbaha said it appeared to be a case of murder. He said whether the girl was also raped or not could be established after a postmortem only.

“We have taken the pictures of T-shirt and jeans recovered from the jungle. We will get picture of the clothes published in the newspapers and electronic media for getting the body identified. If no one turns up to claim the body during the next 72 hours we will get it disposed off after a postmortem, ” said the OC while talking to The Jharkhand Story.
