Daltonganj, June 27: Palamu district education officer Durganand Jha has asked the school management of the 12 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Awasiya Vidyalayas (KGBAV) to increase the enrolment of girl students right from class 6 to 12.
Jha said, “Each of the classes beginning 6 to 12, the intake capacity of admission of the girls is 75.”
There are vacant seats in all the 12 KGBAVs here which is a matter of deep concern.
There is a KGBAV in Harihurganj. As against the permitted intake of admission of 525, this Harihurganj KGBAV has 404 girl students.
Jha said “This Harihurganj KGBAV has a shortfall of 121 admissions of girls. This is too much. This shortfall has to be overcome.”

There is a KGBAV in Chainpur. Here the admissions are 507. It has a shortfall of 18 admissions only.
The Sadar KGBAV has a shortfall of 109 admissions. It is right in the down town nevertheless it has 416 admissions as against the strength of 525.
Panki KGBAV has 515 admissions, a shortfall of just 10 admissions.
District education officer said “Middlemen are obstructing admissions. These people are indulging in disinformation about the admission.”
“Visit village haats and markets. Do miking in regard to the admission. Ask people there to send their girls to residential schools without any hesitation.” reiterated the DEO Jha.
However, some parents requesting for anonymity said girls belonging to the minority community and scheduled castes are made to feel they are intruding on the rights of others. So the parents just avoid their wards’ admission to KGBAV.
Every Panchayat has a roster having seats for SC, ST, OBC, minority etc girls and hence the interference of the middlemen has to be contained and curbed at the panchayat level itself. End
