Ajit Pawar presents Maharashtra’s budget, announces women’s allowance, farmer incentives

Mumbai, June 28: During the current Monsoon Session in the Maharashtra Assembly, state’s Deputy Chief Minister and NCP head Ajit Pawar, who also serves as the state’s Finance Minister, presented the state budget on Friday.

He announced the ‘Mukhyantri Majhi Ladki Bahin’ scheme, which will provide a monthly allowance of ₹1500 to all women aged between 21 and 60 years. The scheme will be implemented from July this year.

Ajit Pawar also announced additional measures during the presentation of the Maharashtra state budget. He proposed a bonus of Rs 5000 per hectare for farmers cultivating cotton and soybean.

Furthermore, he committed to continuing a bonus of Rs 5 per litre for milk-producing farmers beyond July 1, 2024.

Additionally, the compensation for fatalities resulting from animal attacks was increased to Rs 25 lakhs for the next of kin, up from the previous amount of Rs 20 lakhs.

Under the Maharashtra government’s CM Anna Chhatra Yojana, Ajit Pawar announced that every household will receive three free cylinders annually.

Regarding taxes on diesel and petrol, Ajit Pawar announced a reduction in tax rates during his address. The tax on diesel is being lowered from 24% to 21% for the Mumbai region, resulting in a reduction of ₹2 per litre in diesel prices. Similarly, the tax on petrol is being decreased from 26% to 25%, which will lower petrol prices by 65 paise per litre.

The Maharashtra government announced support for all religious minorities through schemes aimed at assisting economically disadvantaged individuals.

Additionally, the government has created a specific category for the third gender to ensure their eligibility for benefits under various government schemes.

Furthermore, the medical insurance limit for families has been raised to ₹5 lakhs from ₹1.5 lakhs previously. The number of empanelled hospitals has also been increased from 1000 to 1900.

Ajit Pawar announced that the government will support bamboo planting by providing Rs 175 per plantation.

Additionally, he mentioned plans to distribute 8 lakh solar pumps to farmers to ensure free energy availability for agricultural purposes.

Commencing on June 28, the monsoon session of the Maharashtra Assembly will extend until July 12. Before the state assembly elections, which will take place in four months, this is the final legislative session.
