Dhanbad, June 29: Altogether 1,63,441 cases related to land acquisition, revenue collection and rehabilitation cases were settled on the spot in Special Lok Adalat held at Community Hall Koyla Nagar of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) on Saturday.
Dhanbad District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) had organized it on directive of Jharkhand Legal Services Authority, in which besides cases settlement, over Rs 166 crores, 34 lakh, 63 thousand properties and appointment letters were distributed.
Jharkhand High Court justice Ananda Sen, while addressing the Special Lok Adalat, said that land acquisition cases increase in large numbers. It is our responsibility and duty to settle them as soon as possible and ensure compensation.
Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad on the occasion said compensation does not mean merely paying money albeit it means providing them livelihood and roof under social security. He requested deputy commissioner (DC) Dhanbad and BCCL chairman cum managing director (CMD) to settle compensation-related disputes within 30 days so that they do not suffer for long.

Justice Prasad said that Dhanbad was selected for Special Lok Adalat as massive cases of coal mining and land acquisition were pending and people were not getting compensation on time.

Compensation to elephant attack victim family
At the Special Lok Adalat, elephant attack victim family Resomuni of East Tundi block was paid Rs 4 lakh compensation by the forest department. Her husband was trampled to death by elephants six months ago. Besides that, two cow owners were also paid compensation of Rs 30,000 each for the death of cattle from electrocution.
Appointment letters to 44 persons on compassion
BCCL on the occasion distributed appointment letters to 44 candidates on compassion grounds while Tata Steel Jharia Division and Dhanbad Rail Division provided the same to two persons each.
Earlier Principal District and Session Judge Dhanbad Ram Sharma welcomed the guest.
