New Delhi, July 1: Rahul Gandhi’s comments about the Hindu community caused a stir in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Home Minister Amit Shah pointed out that Rahul Gandhi should apologize for his statements.
Rahul attacks BJP saying there has been a systematic attack on the idea of India
Rahul Gandhi attacked the BJP-led administration and claimed there has been a systematic attack on the notion of India during the debate on the motion of thanks on the President’s address.
He alleged that there has been a systematic assault on the idea of India, the Constitution, and those who resisted these attacks. Many leaders were personally attacked, and some remain in jail.
He claimed that anyone opposing the concentration of power and wealth, or aggression against the poor, Dalits, and minorities, was suppressed.
He specifically mentioned being attacked by the government and the Prime Minister, highlighting his 55-hour interrogation by the ED as particularly intense.

Rahul’s remark that caused uproar
The Congress leader stated that the Abhayamudra symbolizes the Congress party, representing fearlessness, reassurance, and safety, which dispels fear and offers divine protection in various Indian religions, including Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, and Buddhism.
He emphasized that great leaders have always advocated for non-violence and eliminating fear. In contrast, he criticized those who identify as Hindus but only promote violence, hatred, and falsehood, asserting, “You are not truly Hindu.”
“Abhayamudra is the symbol of Congress…The Abhayamudra is the gesture of fearlessness, is the gesture of reassurance and safety, which dispels fear and accords divine protection and bliss in Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism and other Indian religions….All our great men have spoken about non-violence and finishing fear…But, those who call themselves Hindu only talk about violence, hatred, untruth…Aap Hindu ho hi nahi,” Rahul Gandhi stated.
PM Modi intervenes, Amit Shah demands apology
PM Modi took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, condemning his remarks as a serious issue for depicting the entire Hindu community as violent.
PM Modi intervened and said, “Calling the entire Hindu community violent is a very serious charge.”
Rahul Gandhi further remarked that the BJP is not the entire Hindu society.
“Narendra Modi is not entire Hindu society. BJP is not the entire Hindu society, RSS is not the entire society, this is not BJP’s contract,” he stated.
BJP members vehemently objected to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks, with Home Minister Amit Shah condemning his statements and asserting that linking any religion to violence is inappropriate.
“The Leader of Opposition has categorically said that those who call themselves Hindu talk of violence and do violence. He doesn’t know that crores of people proudly call themselves Hindu. Connecting violence with any religion is wrong. He should apologise,” Amit Shah stated.
The Prime Minister mocked Rahul Gandhi’s comments, saying that democracy has taught him to take it seriously.
“Democracy and the Constitution have taught me that I need to take the Leader of Opposition seriously,” PM Modi stated.
