Jamshedpur, July 1: June, the first month of monsoon ended with a rain deficit of 61% in Jharkhand.

Rain statistics revealed that against a normal of 189.5 mm, the state received actual rainfall of 73.5 mm at the end of June, a deficit of 61%.

All 24 districts encountered deficit rain due to a weak monsoon.

Pakur was facing the highest deficit rain of 87% followed by East Singhbhum which was facing a rain deficit of 75%.

Ranchi was facing a rain deficit of 54%. According to statistics, most of the districts were facing a rain deficit of over 50%.

This year southwest monsoon entered Jharkhand after a delay of six days on June 21. Due to weak currents, it took around a week for the monsoon to cover the entire state.

According to statistics, in the previous two years, Jharkhand witnessed normal rain in the month of June.

Weathermen said they were hopeful.

“We are expecting a good spell of rain in July and this will help in bringing down the deficit”, said an official at IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre.
