Daltonganj, July 6: A veteran Palamu Congressman is all set to do a la Rahul Gandhi in his modest way. It’s a Jan Sampark Yatra.

The Congressman is Laxmi Narayan Tiwary. He is to embark on his Jan Sampark Yatra.

Yatra is to start on July 7

The Jan Sampark Yatra is to start on July 7 coinciding with the most revered Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath.

It will be in the whole of the Daltonganj assembly constituency.

Laxmi Narayan Tiwary said, “I will reach every household here in this Daltonganj assembly constituency. I will be spending time in Bhandarya and Bagdad blocks which are in Garhwa district but are the segments of the Daltonganj assembly constituency.”

Yatra to connect people with Sonia, Rahul

Asked if he is eyeing for the upcoming assembly election he said, “I am a committed and dedicated Congress worker. My Jan Sampark Yatra will be to connect people with our leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Ahmad Mir and Rajesh Thakur and the policies of the Congress party.”

“I am to spread the message of peace and progress,” added Tiwary.

He said, “It is up to the high command to decide about my contesting the Vidhan Sabha election. I will go by whatever decision the party takes”.

Tiwary eyes assembly polls

He said, “If the party asks me to contest from the Daltonganj assembly constituency I am here to fight with heart and soul. I am ready to join the poll fray but the final decision rests with the party.”

Again, asked why he is one of the state secretaries of the Congress party here he just selected the Daltonganj assembly constituency for his Jan Sampark Yatra, Tiwary said, “It is my birthplace and workplace. It’s my janam bhumi and karam bhumi.”

The district Congress president Jaish Ranjan Pathak alias Bittu Pathak was conspicuous by his absence at the press conference of Tiwary on Friday.

In his absence, Tiwary said “Bittu Pathak has gone to Patna on a family visit. And so, he couldn’t join me today.”

Again, asked if all is politically well and good between him and Bittu Pathak, the veteran Tiwary said, “Absolutely fine. It is all very well. Sab bilkul theek thaak hai.”

Congress determined to wrest Daltonganj seat

The Daltonganj assembly constituency is in focus now. Its popular face and versatile Congress leader K N Tripathy lost it twice to the BJP once in 2014 and the other in 2019. Tripathy again lost his Chatra Lok Sabha battle in 2024.

Three political defeats may find K N Tripathy in a very tight position politically. The Congress will be too determined to wrest this Daltonganj assembly constituency from the BJP by fielding a winnable candidate.

Out of the 5 Assembly constituencies here, the BJP has under its command 4 assembly constituencies. The Congress will try to dent the political fort of the BJP here in Palamu.

Laxmi Narayan Tiwary may emerge as a strong contender here in the Vidhan Sabha election from the Daltonganj assembly constituency.

Tiwary is sanguine that his Jan Sampark Yatra will help his Congress party electorally.

The Amethi Lok Sabha seat victory by Congress worker Kishori Lal Sharma has enlivened the hopes of many Congress workers all over the country, including Jharkhand to replicate the poll success. Sharma pulled an easy poll win by defeating a very high-profile BJP candidate Smriti Irani.
