PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, July 11: Reduced rainfall activity due to a weak monsoon has again pushed up the state’s rain deficit figure to 53%.

Against a normal of 285.6 mm of rain, Jharkhand has so far after the onset of monsoon received 135.6 mm of rain, resulting in a 53 per cent deficit.

Earlier this week the rain deficit figure was 49 per cent due to moderate to heavy rainfall in several places.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Jaisalmer, Kota, Shivpuri, Daltonganj, Purulia, Contai and thence eastwards to the northeast Bay of Bengal.

An east-west trough was running from northeast Uttar Pradesh to the cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam across north Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal at 1.5 km above mean sea level.

Light rain was observed at isolated places over the state during the past 24 hours.

Monsoon was weak over the state. The highest rainfall of 8 mm was recorded at Hatgamharia (West Singhbhum).

According to the forecast, heavy rainfall is likely to prevail at isolated places over north-eastern parts of the state tomorrow, July 12 while heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over north-eastern and adjoining central parts of the state this weekend, July 13.
