IAOH holds meet on how to save coal, cement firms staff from diseases

Dhanbad, July 11: The Coalfield chapter celebrated Indian Association of Occupational Health (IAOH) Day and resolved to intensify awareness of the employees of diseases generated by the coal industry and cement factories in the region.

IAOH national day is observed on July 9

Though the IAOH national day is observed every year on July 9 across the country, the Coalfield chapter of IAOH celebrated it on Wednesday evening by holding a seminar on the danger of occupational health at Dhanbad Club.

Commissioner of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation Raviraj Sharma was the chief speaker of the seminar and inaugurated it. While addressing Raviraj Sharma said that since the region is a coal and cement industry belt there is always the danger of different diseases which requires regular checking.

He called upon the members (doctors) of the IAOH Coalfield chapter to share experience and knowledge for stopping occupational health disease and its treatment.

Occupational health diseases

IAOH Coalfield chapter president Dr AK Singh (state president of IMA) on the occasion informed about the steps initiated by the Association for saving employees from occupational health disease and awareness programme.

Eminent pulmonologist Dr Akash Deep on the occasion shed light in detail on the subject of Dhanbad’s invisible burden-Air pollution, Coalmines and Public Health.

He stressed the need for an awareness campaign against the disease that comes out from each factory in the region as well as across the state.

Dr AK Singh said that the IAOH was set up in Jamshedpur on July 9, 1948, and since then Occupational Health Day has been celebrated across the country.

IAOH Coalfield chapter secretary Dr Abeer Chakraborty, treasurer Dr Amita Bagchi, IMA Dhanbad chapter secretary Dr Rakeshinder Singh, for president Dr Major Chandan, Dr MN Ray, Dr BK Singh, Dr Uddiyan Viswas, Dr SS Sarkar, Dr Nupur Chandra, Dr Dinesh Kumar Singh also addressed the seminar and suggested measures for saving employees from occupational health hazard.
