Jharkhand Health dept seals 8 nursing homes in State

Ranchi, July 11: The Jharkhand health department has cracked down on nursing homes across the state and sealed eight private hospitals in three districts, including Ramgarh, Chatra, and Lohardaga with a penalty for violating the Clinical Establishment Act (CEA).

The nursing homes that have been sealed are Vandan Hospital, BM Sevasadan, Aditi Nursing Home (Ramgarh), Raj Hospital, Maa Sevasadan (Chatra district), River View Hospital, Amrit Care Hospital and Kunti Hari Sevasadan (Lohardagga).

A senior health department official said that all eight health centres have also been slapped with penalties under the Act. Aditi Nursing Home of Ramgarh has to pay the highest fine of Rs 50,000 with seven days’ notice.

“The action has been initiated after inspection of health centres in which major violations of Clinical Establishment Act were found in establishments,” said the senior official.

A health department official who wished not to be quoted said that awareness about Sections of the Clinical Establishment Act and action for violating the Act are being carried out simultaneously across the state.

First, private hospitals are informed through workshops and are given proper time to follow the directive.  Despite that when they do not follow the Sections of Act action is taken, he added.

“The health department not only holds workshops for private hospital operators but also for final year students and Interns of medical colleges in the state to make them fully aware about the act as they would open health centre and join hospital after completing the course,” said the official.

A few months ago, the state health department organised an orientation for final-year students and Interns of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad.

Dhanbad Health dept serves notice

Meanwhile, in the wake of the state department’s action, the Dhanbad district health department has set an August 5, 2024 deadline for private nursing homes/ hospitals to either get registration under the Clinical Establishment Act 2010 or face action.

As per the notice of civil surgeon Dr Chandrabhanu Pratapan, if any hospital is found operating without registration Rs 50,000 will be fined the first time, Rs 2 lakh 2nd time and Rs 5 lakh the third time.
