Jharkhand Weather: Low-pressure area over Bay likely to trigger heavy rain on Sunday

Jamshedpur, July 19: A low-pressure area brewing over the Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger heavy showers in south-western Jharkhand on Sunday, June 21.

An alert of heavy rain was also issued for Monday, July 22 in isolated areas of southern Jharkhand.

Weathermen said the low-pressure area has formed over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal.

It is likely to intensify and move northwestwards towards Odisha coasts during the next 2-3 days.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level was passing  through Jaisalmer, Kota, Guna, Mandla, Pendra Road, Gopalpur and thence southeastwards to the centre of the low pressure area over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal  extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

Light to moderate rain was observed at a few places over the state during the last two days.

Monsoon was weak over the state.

The highest rainfall of 27.4 mm was recorded at Mosabani (East Singhbhum) in the past two days.

The highest maximum temperature of  37.6°C was recorded at Godda while the lowest minimum temperature of 24°C was recorded at Ranchi in the past 24 hours.

Jharkhand’s rain deficit as of today stood at 49 per cent.
