A Union home ministry order released on Saturday stated that Chawdhary, a 1990-batch IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, will assume the additional responsibility of BSF DG until a regular appointment is made or until further instructions are given, whichever comes first.

Chawdhary serves as the Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), which is tasked with guarding India’s borders with Nepal and Bhutan.

On Friday, the ACC also directed the early and immediate repatriation of Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, Agrawal’s deputy and Special DG (West), back to his parent cadre in Odisha.

The removal of the two top BSF officers follows recent terror attacks in Jammu along the India-Pakistan border, which have caused numerous casualties among army, security personnel, and civilians.
