Jamshedpur, August 30: The Central Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC), representing the Sikh community in Kolhan, has issued a stern demand for an immediate ban on Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film, Emergency.
On Friday, CGPC leaders gathered at the district administration headquarters to submit a memorandum addressed to the President and Prime Minister of India, calling for the film’s prohibition. The committee also approached the management of PM Mall multiplex, urging them not to screen the film.
The CGPC has expressed strong discontent, alleging that the film portrays Sikhs in a negative light, depicting them as objects of hatred. This, they argue, is not an isolated incident, citing past statements by Kangana Ranaut against Sikhs, farmers, and Sikh organizations.
Sardar Bhagwan Singh, the chief of CGPC, has warned the government of potential violent protests if the film is not banned, stating that a prompt ban would prevent such escalation.

Supporting this stance, CGPC Chairman Sardar Shailendra Singh accused Ranaut of deliberately maligning the Sikh image, suggesting that her actions are part of a larger conspiracy. He pointed to specific scenes in the Emergency trailer that he claims misrepresent Sikhs as ruthless and cruel. General Secretary Amarjit Singh echoed these concerns, stating that the film’s content has deeply offended the Sikh community.
The call for action has gained momentum with several community leaders, including Gurcharan Singh Billa, who demanded legal action against Kangana Ranaut for allegedly inciting religious sentiments against Sikhs through her film. Harvinder Singh Jamshedpuri, a youth activist from Jamshedpur, criticized the film for failing to acknowledge the sacrifices made by Sikhs for the country, arguing that it instead perpetuates a conspiracy against them.
With Emergency set to release in theatres on September 6, 2024, the CGPC has intensified its demands for a ban. The protest at the district administration headquarters was led by Pradhan Bhagwan Singh and included prominent figures like Sardar Shailendra Singh, Vice President Chanchal Singh, General Secretary Amarjit Singh, Gurcharan Singh Billa, and others.
The group vociferously raised slogans against Kangana Ranaut, demonstrating the strong sentiments within the Sikh community regarding the film’s portrayal of their identity.
