PM Modi calls for expedited justice and effective judiciary in addressing crimes against women

New Delhi, August 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a two-day national conference of district courts at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi stressed the necessity of rapid justice in crimes against women, noting that it would provide them with greater confidence in their safety.

Modi further noted that the judiciary is regarded as the guardian of the Constitution, and he commended the Supreme Court and the judiciary for effectively carrying out this duty.

Speaking at the inaugural session of a national conference for the district judiciary, with Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud in attendance, Modi stated that the people of India have always maintained trust in the Supreme Court and the judiciary and have never shown any distrust towards them.

Referring to the imposition of the Emergency as a “dark” period, the Prime Minister highlighted the crucial role of the judiciary in safeguarding fundamental rights.

Modi noted that regarding national security issues, the judiciary has preserved national integrity by placing national interests above all.

In light of the alleged rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata and the sexual assault of two kindergarten girls in Thane, he emphasized that atrocities against women and the safety of children are serious societal concerns.

“The faster justice is delivered in cases of atrocities against women, the greater assurance half of the population will have about their safety,” PM Modi stated.

Modi stated that while there are many strict laws addressing crimes against women, there is a need for improved coordination within the criminal justice system to deliver prompt justice.
