SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, September 3: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) rescued a 12-year-old boy at Bhuli railway station in Dhanbad Rail Division.

The boy, a resident of Jamua in Giridih district, was fleeing from alleged torture at the hands of a teacher at a Madarsa in Bhuli Aara More, Dhanbad.

He was reportedly trying to reach Kolkata, where his father and elder brother work, to escape the abuse.

The RPF handed the boy over to the Child Help Line, after which the Dhanbad Child Welfare Committee (CWC) took him into their custody to reunite him with his family.

The minor informed CWC chairman Uttam Mukherjee that he had been enrolled in the Madarsa just three weeks ago, but the continuous torture by the teachers forced him to flee.

Teacher used to beat 30 times with stick

The boy had previously attended a Madarsa in Nawada district, Bihar, for two years, where he also faced severe physical abuse. Due to the complaints, his father transferred him to Narayanpur Madarsa in Kolkata and eventually to the one in Dhanbad.

The boy revealed that Madarsa teachers would assign one-page tasks to be memorized overnight and brutally beat students 30 times with a stick if they failed to recite them the next morning.

The minor expressed his desire to study in a government school to learn English, Math, and other mainstream subjects.

CWC orders probe, hands over child to father

CWC chairman Uttam Mukherjee stated that the child was handed over to his father.

The CWC has directed the District Superintendent of Education (DSE) and the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) headquarters (juvenile police) to investigate the alleged torture at the Madarsa and submit a report within three days.

The CWC has also asked educational facilities be arranged for the rescued minor under Section 95/1, according to his preferences.
