Daltonganj, Sept 11: The Manatu police in Palamu have made significant progress in solving the murder case of 68-year-old Raja Yadav, who was found dead in his village Ghungree. Yadav was killed in his sleep on September 5, 2024, with a wooden pole used as the weapon.

Yadav’s wife, Radha Devi, filed an FIR with the Manatu police station on September 6, 2024, naming seven accused and 10-12 unidentified individuals.

However, Nirmal Oraon, the officer in charge of the Manatu police station, reported today that two individuals, who were not listed in the FIR, have been apprehended.

“We laid hands on two people. They were not among the seven named accused. They were in a sense out of the FIR,” Oraon stated.

Grudge over niece’s death due to witchcraft

One of the arrested accused, Mukesh Kumar, 23, had a long-standing grudge against Raja Yadav. Kumar’s grievance stemmed from an incident three years ago when his niece died, and her death was attributed to Yadav’s alleged witchcraft.

Oraon said, “One whom we caught is Mukesh Kumar, 23. He had a long-standing grudge against Raja Yadav.”

“The grudge was that three years ago his niece had died. Her death was attributed to the witch practice of Raja Yadav,” added Nirmal Oraon

Mukesh Kumar had recently returned from Jalna, Maharashtra, where he worked as a labourer, on September 3, 2024.

Wooden pole used in the attack seized

On September 5, Kumar, who was known to drink heavily, consumed alcohol twice with his acquaintance Yogender Singh, 28. That night, the two men found Yadav sleeping alone and attacked him with wooden poles, resulting in his death.

Police Officer Nirmal Oraon confirmed that the wooden pole used in the attack and the blood-stained ‘gamcha’ (cloth) of the deceased have been seized, along with two cell phones belonging to the accused.

Police officer Nirmal Oraon said, “Police have seized the two wooden poles along with the blood-stained ‘gamcha’ of the deceased.”

When questioned about the fate of the seven named accused from the FIR, Oraon said, “None of the seven named accused are in jail. We will investigate.”

Arrested accused may seek bail

He also acknowledged that Mukesh Kumar and Yogender Singh have not implicated any of the seven named accused, which could strengthen their case for bail.

In a situation like this, the seven named accused can move court here for bail apprehending arrest for a crime they have not committed nor are involved in it under section 482 of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita 2023.
