Ranchi, September 11: A collaborative mechanism involving the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Botanical Survey of India (BSI), and Birsa Agriculture University (BAU) has been established to implement the Biodiversity Act 2002 and its 2003 amendment in Jharkhand.

This decision was made during a video conference attended by Sanjeev Kumar (IFS), Member Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board; Dr Sudhansu Shekhar Dash, Senior Technical Scientist at BSI Kolkata; Dr Anil Kumar Rathi, Regional Director at ZSI Patna; and Dr SC Dubey, Vice-Chancellor of Birsa Agriculture University.

In addition to implementing the Biodiversity Act, the meeting emphasized studying and surveying Jharkhand’s biodiversity and developing methods for its conservation.

The meeting also resolved that experts from ZSI, BSI, and BAU in Ranchi will jointly train students in taxonomy and agro-biodiversity, update the biodiversity register, and create documentation to support conservation efforts in Jharkhand.

Sanjeev Kumar, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (APCCF) Jharkhand and Member Secretary of the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board stated that the primary goals of the meeting were to focus on research, surveys, gem-plasm banks, agro-biodiversity assessments, bio-resource evaluations, and the current status of conservation efforts.
