Dhanbad, Sept 13: Team India, managed by Manish Kumar from Jharkhand, delivered an exceptional performance at the Commonwealth Chess Championship, securing a record 107 medals, including 40 gold. The championship concluded last week with India surpassing its previous medal count.
According to a report from the All India Chess Federation (AICF) received in Ranchi, Team India won 41 silver and 26 bronze medals in addition to the 40 gold medals.
This achievement marks a significant improvement over the 2022 Commonwealth Chess Championship held in Sri Lanka, where India won 30 medals, including 12 gold.

Manager Manish Kumar’s key role
The remarkable success of the team is attributed to Manish Kumar, the manager of Team India. Kumar, who is the Secretary of the All Jharkhand Chess Association (AJCA) and Joint Secretary of the AICF, played a crucial role in the team’s record performance.
This was Kumar’s first major responsibility as manager of the Indian team for an international chess championship.
A secretary of a district chess association said that Manish Kumar proved lucky for the country as the team clinched the highest-ever 107 medals.

Gold medal winners
India’s gold medal winners included Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy (B-18), Rajanya Datta (G-18), Vaz Ethan (B-16), Shubhi Gupta (G-16), Sharnathi Viresh (B-14), Arshia Das (G-14), Mayukh Mazumdar (B-12), Pratitee Bardoloi (G-12), Aaradhya Das (G-10), Ayaan Phutane (B-08), and Harshika M (G-08).
International Arbiter and veteran chess administrator Jayant Bhuyan from Jamshedpur, AJCA Coordinator Prabhat Ranjan from Dhanbad, and officials from Saraikela and West Singhbhum District Chess Associations, including Ajay Kumar and Basant Khandelwal, respectively, congratulated Manish Kumar for leading Team India to an unprecedented medal haul at the Commonwealth Chess Championship. Senior player Rohan Shandilya from Jamshedpur also extended his congratulations.
