Dhanbad, Nov 21: Alumnus Dr Madhu Chopra, the mother of Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra, will be the centre of attraction in the three-day Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur to be held from November 24 to 26.

Priyanka Chopra was born on 18 July 1982 in Jamshedpur, to Ashok and Madhu Chopra, both physicians in the Indian Army. Her father was a Punjabi Hindu from Ambala. Her maternal grandmother, Madhu Jyotsna Akhouri was an MLA from Jamshedpur (east) constituency in 1957.

MGMMCH Diamond Jubilee press and publicity committee chairman Dr Mritunjay Kumar Singh, when contacted, said that besides Dr Madhu Chopra, alumni of the institution settled in the USA, UK, France, Australia, South Africa and Gulf countries have confirmed attending the function.

“Dr Madhu Chopra, a 1971-72 batch student of MGMMCH, is likely to attend it. Besides her, alumni from across the country would also participate,” said Dr Singh.

Different committees have been formed under Principal Dr K N Singh and Superintendent Dr Ravindra Kumar for successfully conducting the Diamond Jubilee functions.

MGMMCH Alumni Association president Dr KK Singh of Ranchi, Dr Ajit Saha, Dr Rajiv  Mishra, Dr Kranti Singh, Dr Suman Dubey, Dr  KP Dubey, Dr Sunil Kumar (organizing secretary), Dr GK Singh (treasurer) will attend the function.

A souvenir committee has been also constituted under Dr Jhakhanwal while Dr Gauri Bhaduri has been made registration-in-charge. Dr Vinay Singh, Dr PK Singh, Dr Priti Mohan and Dr GC Majhi are also members of the committee.

An MGMMCH official said that the Diamond Jubilee programme will begin with an introduction ceremony at Beldih Golf Club at 4  pm on November 24 and the main function will kick start at the medical college campus on November 25 morning.

The participant alumni would take their morning tea and breakfast at Dimna Lake. As a scheduled programme, MGMMCH alumni would also present a cultural programme themselves in the evening.
