Jamshedpur, Sept 30: In a scathing attack, former MP and senior Congress leader, Dr. Ajoy Kumar, accused Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy of betraying public trust and failing to deliver on his promises over the past five years.

Addressing reporters on Monday, Dr. Kumar outlined a series of grievances against the MLA, claiming that Roy has done nothing but mislead the people with empty promises and ineffective governance.

Dr. Kumar likened Roy’s term in office to five acts of “straying, hanging, sticking, wiping, and forgetting,” asserting that his leadership has been a disappointment for the people of Jamshedpur.

Unresolved water supply issues

Dr. Kumar lambasted Roy for failing to improve the Mohrada water supply scheme, noting that despite five years in power, residents in areas like Birsanagar, Bagunhatu, and Baridih Basti continue to receive contaminated and foul-smelling water.

“People kept running to the MLA for clean water, but all they received were promises soaked in false assurances,” Kumar remarked, criticizing Roy’s inability to address a basic necessity like clean water.

Neglected road infrastructure

The condition of the road from Jemco Chowk to the South Gate was another focal point of Dr. Kumar’s criticism. He pointed out that the road, which is frequently used by heavy vehicles, remains in disrepair despite numerous accidents and fatalities.

“The road’s renovation has been pending for five years, and yet, Saryu’s development work is nowhere to be seen,” Kumar said. He even mentioned a recent incident where a journalist was injured on the dilapidated road, underlining the urgency of the situation.

For over 25 years, the people of Jamshedpur East have been waiting for ownership rights to their land, and Dr. Kumar accused Roy of continuing the trend of false promises. “Saryu detained the people in the name of ownership just as the BJP and former Chief Minister did before him,” said Kumar.

Failure to address slum condition

Dr. Kumar emphasized that despite holding power for years, Rai failed to bring significant improvements to the lives of those living in areas like Kalyannagar and Indranagar. He accused the MLA of neglecting the poor and downtrodden after winning elections, claiming that Rai prioritizes corporate interests over public welfare.

“The MLA forgets the people once in power, focusing only on those who can benefit him personally,” Kumar remarked.

Unfulfilled promises to youth and businesses

Dr. Kumar also criticized Rai for not delivering on his promises to create jobs for the youth and prevent Jamshedpur from becoming a “graveyard for companies.” He pointed out that companies like Tata Motors relocated operations to Kharagpur while Roy stood by idly.

“Saryu Roy did not work for anyone except his family and relatives. No new companies were opened, and promises to the employees of the cable company were not fulfilled,” Kumar stated.

In a damning conclusion, Dr. Kumar accused Rai of allowing crime and mafia activity to flourish in Jamshedpur. He claimed that while Rai had promised to rid the city of crime, the reality has been an increase in incidents of murder, theft, and the rise of land mafia activity. “Many of these mafias are even patronized by Saryu Roy,” Kumar alleged.
