Daltonganj, Sept 30: A popular Jan Shikayat Nivaran Karyakaram was held today on the premises of the Town Thana in Daltonganj.
It was steered by the officer in- charge of the Town police station Deobrata Poddar.
Officers in-charge of the Sadar police station Uttam Kumar Rai and Satbarwa police station Anchit Kumar represented their police stations here in the Town Thana.
The show had interesting scenes. Right before the battery of the police officers, women began a verbal duel. They screamed at and shouted.
Police officers present there had a tough time containing them. They asked women not to indulge in unseemly situations.
Passion and temper both were high as each side thought the police would throw weight behind them.
Police played a neutral referee or a third umpire like in a cricket match one has seen.

Common grievances
OC Poddar said the maximum complaints are about marital discord and land disputes.
There came a case of caste certificate in the event of an inter-caste marriage, said Poddar.
A woman cried that her husband had abandoned her for three years but he had sheepishly taken a loan in her name. Now the money lender is making her life difficult.
A young married girl narrated how she is tortured by her husband and her in-laws.
It’s women and girls who come in great numbers in the Jan Shikayat Nivaran Karyakaram.
Women and girls are accompanied by their male family members.

Role of legal services in dispute resolution
This correspondent covered or uncovered this mini-scale Jan Shikayat Nivaran Karyakaram today and noticed that in matters of land disputes, police have a very limited role where utmost that it can do or it does is it refers the land dispute case to the Aanchal office like CO.
Here in matters of land disputes and marital discord if a functionary of the DLSA takes part then there is far more hope of redressal of the disputes.
A police thrust and legal assistance in this kind of programme are the need of the hour.
Today District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has a new fleet of 155 para-legal volunteers. So, there is no crunch for them either.
Again, there is one para-legal volunteer attached to the police station but this para-legal volunteer remains conspicuous for his absence.
