New Delhi, Oct 2: Former minister and BJP candidate from Surankote in Jammu and Kashmir, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah Bukhari, died on Wednesday after he collapsed at his residence in the Poonch district, according to party officials.
BJP leaders reported that Bukhari had been ill for some time and experienced a fatal heart attack at around 7 a.m.
He was 75 years old and leaves behind his wife, a son, and two daughters.

Bukhari, who was a two-time MLA from Surankote, became a member of the BJP in February this year after the Central government announced Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for his Pahari community.
He was designated as the BJP candidate for Surankote in the recent elections, which occurred on September 25.
In February 2022, Bukhari ended his 40-year relationship with the National Conference following a disagreement with party president Farooq Abdullah over the ST status.
