Jharkhand Aanganwadi workers begin indefinite strike

Dhanbad, Oct 5: Aanganwadi Sevika and Sahayika workers across Jharkhand have embarked on an indefinite strike, bringing child welfare schemes to a standstill in rural areas.

The strike is in support of their eight-point demand list, which, they claim, has been long ignored by the state government.

In a show of strength, a large rally was organised by the Aanganwadi Sevika and Sahayika workers under the banner of the Jharkhand Rajya Samaj Kalyan Aanganwadi Karmchari Sangh in Giridih.

The rally began at the Giridih stadium and culminated at the Collectorate, where a memorandum was submitted to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, through the Deputy Commissioner. The memorandum outlined the pending demands of the workers.

Leaders vow to continue strike

Devyanti Devi, the district president of the Sangh, presided over the gathering and made it clear that the strike would continue indefinitely until all the demands were fulfilled by the government. She emphasized that the workers were prepared for a prolonged protest if necessary.

The Aanganwadi workers’ demands include wage revisions, regularization of employment, and improved working conditions, among other key issues.

Support from another employee union

The Jharkhand State Non-Gazetted Employees Federation extended its full support to the strike. General Secretary Ashok Kumar Singh ‘Nayan’ addressed the rally, affirming the legitimacy of the demands and urging the government to act promptly.

Other notable speakers included Treasurer Mukteswar Prasad, Joint Secretary Murari Ram, and several union leaders like Amit Kumar Singh, Prabhat Prasad Yadav, and Urmila Rana, who echoed the need for immediate government action.
