Jamshedpur, Oct 22: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) today predicted that the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a severe cyclonic storm by October 23 and reach the coasts adjoining Odisha and West Bengal the next day.
The cyclone -Dana- is expected to trigger heavy rain especially in southern Jharkhand from October 24.
According to a bulletin issued by IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over south-eastern parts of the state on October 24, Thursday.
Thundershowers and lightning with surface wind 30-40 Kmph gusting to 50 Kmph is likely at isolated places over the state on Thursday.

On Friday, October 25 heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over southern and adjoining central parts of the state.
Thunderstorms and lightning with surface wind of 30-40 Kmph gusting to 50 Kmph is likely at isolated places over the state on Friday.
The national weather agency warned the fishermen of coastal areas in Odisha and neighbouring Bengal not to venture into the sea this week.
A red alert has been issued for the Puri, Khurda, Ganjam and Jagatsinghpur districts of Odisha on October 24, warning the residents of heavy to very heavy rainfall as well as lightening in view of cyclone Dana.
