Dhanbad Oct 23: The district police have seized Rs 71.97 lakh from a car on Dhanbad- Bokaro check post under Mahuda police station around 30 km away from district headquarters.
Dhanbad DC Madhvi Mishra, confirming the seizure, said that the cash was recovered during a routine check-up of vehicles on the inter-district check post on the Dhanbad–Bokaro border on the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday. The car was coming from Bokaro to Dhanbad.
Dhanbad SSP HP Janardhan also confirmed that cash of Rs 71.97 lakh was seized from a Toyota car coming from Bokaro at 3 am on Wednesday.
An official posted at the check-post after recovery of the amount in the car, immediately informed Baghmara SDPO Purushottam Singh and other concerned officials of the Income Tax department and began interrogation of car riders carrying cash amounts.

Car and cash were seized and brought to Mahuda police station where the Income Tax team screened the paper. Baghmara SDPO Purushottam Singh was camping at the police station from early morning.
Rs 1.5 lakh seized from bike
In another incident on the directive of the senior superintendent of police HP Janardhan Barora police station team recovered Rs 1.5 lakh from a bike at previous night. The bike rider failed to produce paper for carrying such a heavy amount.
