New Delhi, Nov 1: Senior bureaucrat Rajesh Kumar Singh on Friday assumed the role of Defence Secretary.
The IAS officer from the 1989 batch of the Kerala cadre officially took charge at South Block, where the ministry is located.
Prior to assuming his position, Singh paid tribute to the fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial.

Earlier on August 20, he assumed the position of Officer on Special Duty (Defence Secretary-designate).
Singh takes over from Giridhar Aramane, a 1988-batch IAS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, who retired on Thursday.
