Leh, Nov 1: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) revealed on Friday that it has launched India’s inaugural analog space mission, which has started in Ladakh’s Leh.
This mission, spearheaded by ISRO’s Human Spaceflight Centre, has been created in collaboration with AAKA Space Studio, the University of Ladakh, and IIT Bombay, with support from the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council.
The mission is designed to simulate life in an interplanetary habitat and examine the difficulties of establishing a base station outside of Earth.

ISRO shared the news on X saying, “India’s first analog space mission kicks off in Leh! A collaborative effort by Human Spaceflight Centre, ISRO, AAKA Space Studio, University of Ladakh, IIT Bombay, and supported by Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, this mission will simulate life in an interplanetary habitat to tackle the challenges of a base station beyond Earth.”

This mission marks a significant advancement in replicating conditions akin to those found on Mars and the Moon. Ladakh is a perfect place to simulate the difficulties astronauts might encounter on these celestial bodies because of its great isolation, harsh climate, and distinctive geological features.
This mission will provide essential data to bolster India’s Gaganyaan program and upcoming space exploration endeavors.
