Dhanbad, Nov 6: Samvit Ramesh, a budding badminton talent from Ranchi, has secured a direct entry into the prestigious Yonex-Sunrise 36th Sub-Junior National Badminton Championship under-13 category. The championship will be held in Jammu from November 27 to 30.

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has given direct entry to only 17 players nationwide, based on their rankings, and Samvit, currently ranked 9th at the all-India level, is the sole player from Jharkhand to be granted this privilege.

Apart from Samvit, no player from Jharkhand, in either the boys’ or girls’ under-13 category, has received direct entry into the main draw of the championship.

A promising talent with an impressive track record

Samvit, who is recognized as one of the most promising players in Jharkhand, is currently the under-13 boys’ champion of the state. He has an impressive track record, having won titles in the under-9 singles, under-11 singles, and under-13 singles categories at the state championships.

According to an official from the Jharkhand Badminton Association, Samvit has demonstrated consistent excellence since he began playing four years ago.

In addition to his under-13 success, Samvit has also participated in the under-15 and under-17 events of the state championship, reaching the semifinal stage in both categories. His dedication to the sport and continual improvement is evident, as he has now advanced to the national level.

Training and support from prominent coaches

Currently a student at the Ranchi Residential Coaching Centre, Samvit is coached by Bharat Sah. Additionally, he receives training at the renowned Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru.

Samvit’s father, YS Ramesh, the IG of Palamu, is also the executive president of the Ranchi District Badminton Association, providing strong support for his son’s athletic pursuits.

Indian team coach Sachin Rana from Jamshedpur stated that Samvit has the potential to reach the international level, but he will need to work hard to progress further.
