Washington, Nov 6: Former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump won the U.S. presidential elections and secured a second term as U.S. President by decisively defeating his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris.

78-year-old Trump reached the required 270 electoral votes to secure the presidency. As of 4 pm (IST), races projected by the Associated Press showed Republican candidate Trump with 277 electoral votes, while Democratic candidate Harris held 224.

Trump triumphed in key swing states like Wisconsin, North Carolina, Georgia and Pennsylvania.

Speaking to supporters in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump declared his win and promised a “golden age for America.”

“We made history tonight… This is a magnificent victory for the American people, that will allow us to make America great again,” he stated.

“This will be the golden age of America. America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate…This is a magnificent victory for the American people. This was a movement like nobody’s ever seen before, and frankly, this was, I believe, the greatest political movement of all time. There’s never been anything like this in this country, and maybe beyond,” Trump stated.

“And now it’s going to reach a new level of importance because we’re going to help our country heal. We’ll help our country…we have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly,” he said.
